Our Rigorous Four Phase Approach to Excellence

Our work follows a comprehensive four-phase methodology to guarantee superior outcomes:Access and Containment Setup, Surface Preparation, Coating Application, and QA/QC andRemediation.

Quality Assurance at Every Step

Surface Preparation

We prepare surfaces to meet the full range of Australian Standard specifications under AS1627.4, achieving preparation grades from Sa 1 through to Sa 3 as defined in AS/NZS ISO8501-1:

  • Sa 1 (Light Blast Cleaning): Removes loose mill scale, rust, and previous coatings while retaining most of the original surface. Suitable for maintenance coating in low-corrosivity environments.
  • Sa 2 (Thorough Blast Cleaning): Removes nearly all mill scale, rust, and foreign matter. The surface shows slight residual discolouration but is suitable for most protective coating systems in moderate corrosive environments.
  • Sa 2.5 (Very Thorough Blast Cleaning – ‘Near White Metal’): Our standard specification for critical applications. Removes virtually all visible contamination, leaving only slight staining or discolouration. Verified to AS/NZS ISO 8503.
  • Sa 3 (Blast Cleaning to Visually Clean Steel – ‘White Metal’): The highest standard, producing a uniform metallic appearance free from all visible contaminants. Reserved for the most demanding corrosive environments and extended service life requirements.

All abrasive media (Garnet, Steel Grit, or approved alternatives) comply with AS 1627.4 specifications. Surface profile is measured and documented to ensure optimal coating adhesion, typically achieving 50-100μm profile depth depending on coating system requirements.

Coating System

We apply durable, multi-layer protective systems rated for severe corrosive environments (Category C5-Marine per AS/NZS 2312.2:2014). These advanced barrier coating systems provide:

  • Exceptional chemical and moisture resistance
  • Expected service life of 20-25 years in splash/tidal zones without maintenance
  • Full compliance with Australian environmental and safety standards

Quality Control

Our structured Inspection Test Plan (ITP) incorporates mandatory verification procedures aligned with Australian and international standards:

  • Dry Film Thickness (DFT): Measured per AS/NZS 1580.107.3 to verify specified coating thickness
  • Adhesion Testing: Conducted using standards as per AS/NZS 1580.408 series
  • Holiday (Continuity) Testing: Performed on final coating film using low-voltage wet sponge or high-voltage spark testing methods per AS/NZS 1580.498 and NACE SP0188 to ensure complete film integrity
  • Surface Profile Verification: Documented using replica tape per AS/NZS ISO 8503 series
  • Environmental Monitoring: Temperature, humidity, and dew point recorded per AS 1580.108.1 to ensure optimal coating conditions

All inspection records, test certificates, and non-conformance reports are maintained in accordance with AS/NZS ISO 9001 quality management principles, providing complete project traceability and documentation.
